Canadian, 1944
Michel Des Marais was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. His interest in painting began as a young boy when he would walk to the studio of Leo Ayotte, where he would run errands and deliver paintings. He worked as a postman, until the 1980’s when he received a diploma from the Cégepin in Sainte-Hyacinthe, Quebec. He studied under the tutelage of Laurent Bonet, Nelson Dupré, and Pierre Duhamel. Des Marais began as a landscape painter, but in 1999 he placed his first sheep into his paintings, a trait which he is well known for.
Des Marais’ dedication is relentless, attending over 20 symposiums a year. He was chosen as the official painter for the “Seventh World Sheep and World Congress”, and donates his works to raise money for a variety of charities. Des Marais’ works are collected throughout Canada, the United States, and the world.
