Canadian, 1942

Claude Langevin was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. He was interested in art since childhood, but like his father and brother, he followed the family tradition of becoming a physician. In medical school he found himself unhappy and using his artistic talents to sketch his peers biology homework. He soon left his studies and began working for a cousin producing low cost decorative paintings for furniture merchants. Langevin began painting for himself during the 1970’s. He opened art galleries in shopping malls, worked by day, and created by night. He often worked 16 to 18 hour days, and soon realized that in order to focus on his painting he must focus his talents. He sold his galleries and only painted.

Taking cue from the Canadian landscape, in particular, city and country scenes throughout Quebec and the Maritime provinces, Langevin has had a successful career for over twenty years. He holds regular exhibitions in all the major urban centres of Canada, and is displayed in both national and international, public and private collections.
