Lake Country, B.C. www.chrismalmkvist.com Born in Helsingborg, Sweden and immigrated to Canada with his parents in 1957. Chris grew up in Nanaimo. Chris and his wife Noreen moved to the Carr’s Landing community of the Lake Country area in the Okanagan in 1974 where they raised two children Lehna & Keith. Chris works as a full time artist in his studio. He is an eclectic artist and works in many mediums, often incorporating numerous techniques into his paintings and etchings. Malmkvist has also developed a reputation as a stone sculptor. Pulling inspiration from every day subjects, local wildlife, orchards, vineyards, and our beautiful lakes to the motorcycles that suddenly appear with the sunshine. Chris has recently done realistic still life painting using wine bottles, glasses and decanters to capture the reflecting light. These painting show his fine technique as well as his ability to incorporate fabulous abstract images in the reflections. Malmkvist creates individual works of art that are bursting with detail and the strength of his fascination with the subject matter. Chris does not reproduce any of his paintings; you can be assured that when you purchase a Chris Malmkvist painting no one else will own a copy of it. As a printmaker, Malmkvist creates etchings in which the artist has personally conceived the image, created the master plates, and executed the entire printing process. Chris’s work has been purchased by both Private and Corporate collectors and he has developed a loyal following. His work has been sent overseas to the UK (including a purchase by Prince Philip of the British Royal family) to Sweden, Japan, New Zealand to name a few. Artist’s statement: Experimentation is the essence of my art. |
