JOSE TRINIDAD
Canadian, b. 1929

José Trinidad was born in Manila, Philippines. He studied Fine Arts at the University of the Philippines, but left school early due to the loss of his father. In the 1950’s, he worked as a civilian artist at the Philippine Naval Base, and the Army’s, Camp Crame.  After which, he worked as a mural artist with the top interior designer Ronnie Laing, and for the furniture house, Rattan Arts. In 1967, he immigrated to San Francisco, and in 1969, to Vancouver, Canada.

Although a poet at heart, Trinidad approaches his art with the seriousness of a disciplined craftsman, with painstaking care and detail. Each piece of art is created with much inspiration and feeling. Vancouver provides the ideal environment for his oil paintings, which are entrenched with joyful colours, vibrant flowers, and the uncanny play of sunlight and shadow – his palette creates a dreamlike world of tranquility and tenderness. Trinidad spends a few months every year in Europe, immersing himself in the settings of the impressionists, such as at Monet’s famous garden in Giverny, France, in the age-old houses and quiet gardens of Spain, and in England's traditional gardens.

Trinidad is a master of contemporary impressionist art. He is one of Canada’s most celebrated artist’s, and has built an international reputation as far reaching as the sources of his inspiration. His paintings are in extreme demand in major galleries across North America, as well as in private collections worldwide.
