Canadian, 1938
Serge Brunoni was born in Lygny-en-Barois, Lorraine, France. War and the occupation marked his early childhood, but art was a part of his life; he clearly remembers going through thousands of crayons, and has only fond memories of his young years.
At sixteen, Brunoni was hired as a factory worker. By age twenty, he enrolled in the French Colonial Forces, and was sent to French Equatorial Africa (Brazzaville). After demobilization Brunoni traveled deep in the jungles the Congo, while working for The African Society for Topographical Studies and Works.
After three and a half years in Africa, Brunoni immigrated to Canada, and in 1963, permanently settled in Trois-Riviere, Quebec. The husband and father of two began painting in 1970, and two years later had devoted himself entirely to his new found passion.
Spanning a career more than thirty-years, Brunoni is a valued figure in Quebec and in Canada.
